HIMALAYAS

Crossing boundaries and bringing opposites together – that is what defines Alexander Maria Lohmann‘s artistic work. The photo and multimedia artist records moods, condenses them and places them in a new context. He travels the world with his camera to capture the perfect moment in remote, hostile and dangerous places. Lohmann‘s credo: to step out of his comfort zone while constantly reinventing
himself. His subjects span a wide range from pristine landscapes, animals, and people to metropolises, amusement parks, and war zones; his media include photography, digital collage, analog mixed media, acrylic printing, and video installations. By combining different motifs and techniques, the concrete with the abstract, he creates exciting contrasts and surprising perspectives. The quality of his work is internationally recognized: Lohmann is represented at art fairs such as Art Basel in Miami as well as in numerous renowned galleries, for instance in Amsterdam, Barcelona, or London, as well as in Leica Galleries. Currently, his works are on display in a solo exhibition in Monaco.
For his latest project, „Mensch klein – Natur groß“ (Human Small – Nature Big), Lohmann once again pushed himself to physical limits: In the icy heights of the Himalayas, he captured spectacular summit portraits of unearthly grandeur. Digitally collaged with corresponding or contrasting subjects from Nepal or New York City, or painted over by hand, he transformed them into unique works of art. And also
photographically, Lohmann again explored boundaries by photographing rock formations and wild mustangs in North American national parks in a completely new way. By superimposing countless shots of the same subject, some out of focus or blurred in long exposures, he achieved previously unseen, mystical-looking effects.
His works are available in various sizes and each is limited to only a few pieces, including a Hahnemühle certificate of authenticity with watermark and fluorescent hologram. The photographs are produced framed and ready to hang in the best possible gallery quality. Worldwide, insured shipping in art security packaging directly to your home.

SCREAMING SILENCE III

Crossing boundaries and capturing extreme contrasts under the most adverse conditions – that is what makes Alexander Maria Lohmann‘s artistic work stand out and give his works their incredible power and depth. Lohmann captures moods, condenses them and places them in a new context. Fractures, contrasts and boundaries have always interested and accompanied him: personal blows of fate repeatedly brought the son of a photographer from Obergurgl in Tyrol to his own limits. Through these experiences he developed his very distinct outlook on situations and moments.
Following jungle, desert and high mountains, Lohmann again crossed physical and psychological boundaries and embarked on a life-threatening journey in war-torn Syria. Unstable ruins, lurking snipers,
constant military harassment and even the risk of the death penalty could not deter him.
Lohmann uses various artistic techniques in order to break the documented brutality captured in these photographs and to make their deafening silence bearable. Corresponding subjects from Disneyland,
over-painting and digital alienation generate bizarre contrasts and fascinating random effects.

SCREAMING SILENCE I

Reports are not able to profoundly touch us; the events seem too distant, too chaotic, too intangible. What war inflicts on us is revealed to its full extent only in retrospect: the injuries, the scars, the debris. And those who have been killed – who are now missing. Districts, settlements, entire regions lie in ruins – and have literally died out.And yet, despite of all of this destruction, Alexander Maria Lohmann has discovered a glimmer of hope: untamed greenery is overgro – wing the ruins. People emerge from nowhere, go about their work and begin to rebuild their homes. Life goes on. And in the middle of all of this, everywhere, there are chil – dren. They carry the hope of a peaceful future within them. Above all, however, they are full of dreams and fantasies and the only thing they long for is to play.
Screeching children, howling sirens, flickering lights – Disneyland, too, is sometimes reminiscent of a battleground.
Even if the omens have been reversed: The „field of rubb – le“ in the kids paradise is quickly cleaned up and everyone involved can go home unharmed in the evening. Yet these images too, quietly and abandoned, reverberate the preceding events. Upon viewing them, wild cries of joy and powerful emotions come to life again and escalate into cacophony.
Side by side with scenes of real war zones and similar motifs taken from the same angle, the deep contrast of the situations – despite superficial parallels – becomes abundantly clear. But instead of relativism setting in, these fundamentally different subject matters reinforce each other.
Too much, too loud, too vehemently: the absurdity of what people do to each other screams out of the photographs in both these scenarios.
